About Mount Cotton

Mount Cotton is a suburb located with the Redlands, approximately 34 kilometres from Brisbane, Queensland. According to the 2016 census the suburb recorded a population of almost 7,000 people.
The name of the suburb originates from the mountain that is in the area and was named after Robert Dixon a surveyor in the colony of Queensland. Dixon named Mount Cotton after the commandant of the Moreton Bay penal settlement.
The area was settled in the late 1860s by Germans. By the late 20th century, poultry farms were established and are still found in the area today.
Mount Cotton is home to a koala conservation area.
