Formally the Shire of Beaudesert, the suburb of 2,464 people have now become part of the Logan City following the local amalgamations in 2008. The southern and eastern boundary of the suburb follows the Logan River.

Pastoral runs were established in the area from 1840. The locality was named after John Chambers as he first took up land in the area in 1848.

Educational institutions began in 1890 with Chambers Flat Provisional School and later became Chambers Flat State School in 1909. The School then closed on 3 August 1921 due to low numbers of students.
