Greenbank was first settled in early 1840 by Peter Jackson and Jack Slack. The two ran a horse trading business in South Brisbane. Jack Slack and brother William Slack leased land in Slacks Creek to run horses, and later Jackson and Jack slack did a partnership at Greenbank.
From the 1800’s farming, dairying and timber were the main industries in the region. At this time only a hotel named Teviot existed on the corner of Pub Lane and teviot Road. During 1893 Greenbank Provisional School was built by volunteer labour and became Greenbank State School in 1909. However, closed between 1943 and 1950 due to a decline of students. Greenbank State School then reopened and now has approximately 1,117 students enrolled with 72 teachers.
