Kingston is a suburb located in Logan City, Queensland. According to the 2016 census, Kingston has a population of 10,539 people. The suburb is mainly a residential suburb, with a small amount of commercial, industrial and retail areas.
Kingston is home to the Kingston Butter Factory which was developed in June 1907 as dairying was the most common industry from the 1890’s. In 1958 Peters bought the factory and it ceased production in 1983. The Kingston Butter Factory now operates as a community arts centres and houses a theatre, crafts and arts and museum. The location of the factory is now on the Local Heritage Register for its historical, technological and social significance.
Another major industry in the area was the Kingston Gold Mine at Mount Taylor during from 1932 until 1954. The area then became an unofficial waste dump and during the 1960s the area was subdivided into a housing estate.
Educational institutions began with Kingston College in 1977, which has now been renamed to Kingston State College in 2016. Kingston State School opened in 1912 and Groves Christian College.
