About Logan Village

Logan Village is semi rural, low density suburb in Logan City- 45 kilometres from Brisbane. The suburb has remained remote with few retail and commercial outlets. The Logan River passes through the middle of Logan Village as well as the disused railway.

The locality name comes from the river which was named by Ralph Darling the governor of New South Wales. In the colonial era, the town was referred to by many names including Town of Logan, Village of Logan and Logan Town. In the 2011 census, the population of Logan Village was 3,586 people living there.

European settlement at Logan Village originated as the head of navigation on the Logan River. The first constructions to the suburb were a wharf and a store for the cotton plantation at ‘Townsvale’.

Educational institutions began with The Village of Logan Provisional School which opened in 1872, and later becoming the Logan Village State School in 1901.

The first bridge was built in Logan Village in 1897, however was swept away by the flood in 1903. It took 93 Years before the bridge was replaced, which was named after Geoff Phillip, the Beaudesert Shire Engineer. There is a public library in Wharf Street Logan Village operated by the Logan City Council.

There is a number of heritage- listed sites in the suburb including Old Logan Village State School, Logan Village Museum and Local History Centre.

In 2011 the Logan City Council permitted the Logan Village Local Plan to develop the town centre.
