Currumbin is a coastal suburb located within the Gold Coast region of Queensland. According to the 2016 census, Currumbin had a population of 2,920 people living there.
The first European to acquire land in the area was Samuel William Grey. During 1904, Isle, Love and Co advertised the first subdivisions within the suburb. The first hotel was built in 1910 by Wallace McDonald Nicoll which bought significant tourism and industry to Currumbin. Many houses within Currumbin date from the period of later subdivisions in the 1920s.
Currumbin contains more natural vegetation than other areas on the Gold Coast due to the difficulty of building on the steep hillsides and partly due to the presence of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is a long-standing landmark on the Gold Coast and is a heritage-listed site.
Currumbin was named Australia’s cleanest beach in 2013.
Elephant Rock and Currumbin Rock enclose a discrete surf beach. A popular site is Currumbin Alley which is formed on the bar of Currumbin Creek. Some properties within Currumbin are only separated from the beach by an undeveloped public road and the elevated land provides great views of the coast.
The Currumbin Rock Pools are a popular place for swimming in the upper part of the Currumbin Creek.
The Swell Sculpture Festival is held between Currumbin Creek and Elephant Rock each year. Elephant Rock becomes a pedestal for signature artwork, and other artworks is spread along the oceanway pavements.
Residential properties in Currumbin often come with trees around the house to provide shade during hot summer days. Queensland is known for their storm season so homeowners should be prepared and give their trees proper maintenance to avoid potential damage. To avoid potential damage to your home, please contact Treesafe today to provide expert maintenance services.
It is important to note that a council permit may be required in order to remove a tree depending on whether it is protected by a Vegetation Protection Order (VPO). You will need to contact your local council for more information on removing a tree. Alternatively, you can ring Treesafe for more information or advice on VPO’s. See our contact list below:
